A beautiful 6-acre canyon set in Saratoga is a dream bachelor’s retreat. ODS interior design took this further with a serene and warm palette utilizing natural wood cabinets and dark hardwood floors against wall finishes of poured-in-place concrete and cold-rolled steel. The owner wanted a modern contemporary setting that was easy to maintain as a weekend or vacation home, with easy living such as banquette seating versus a formal dining room.

Simple living was further facilitated with easy to maintain surfaces and materials, kept elemental in nature utilizing wood, steel, concrete and stone. Decorative lighting was fun and geometric, yet functional. With a neutral palette, large Fleetwood windows, the focus becomes the surrounding canyon landscape in a quiet, contemplative environment watching as light and weather changes during the day. A relaxing Zen-like retreat for a small family, seemingly remote yet not far from a beautiful small town, a simply stated yet beautiful design with understated colors and materials all working in harmony.
